AC and HVAC System Maintenance Tips & plans
The popularity of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is growing every day. HVAC units are used in both commercial and residential properties. They provide ventilation, maintain the desired temperature, manage indoor humidity, and remove dust and other pollutants from the air.
An HVAC system operates based on the principles of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics, and like any other system or device, it can fail. To avoid this, follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of your air conditioner and periodically do diagnostics. One of the best ways to prevent breakdowns in your HVAC system is to conduct scheduled maintenance. Spring is the most suitable time for this and every three to six months.
HVAC System Maintenance Recommendations
- Test the system. Everything requires attention; the HVAC system is no exception. We recommend that you check your air conditioner every three to six months or about one month before using it. If specific sounds or smells of your air conditioning system appear when you turn it on, we recommend that you immediately call a specialist to diagnose the system.
- Clean the perimeter. There must be at least two feet of space around the HVAC system. This applies to both the indoor and outside units.
- Check the health of the air filter. Always remember to check the air filter of your HVAC system before using it. We recommend changing the air filter at least once a month.
- Check the drain line. One of the simplest ways to check if the drain line is working is to pull out the drain tray at the bottom of the unit. If the drainpipe is clogged, there will be standing water in the tray.
- Clean the air ducts or grilles. If these elements become contaminated with dust or dirt, your HVAC system will not be able to operate at its maximum efficiency and will have to work harder than necessary. This can lead to wear of parts and failure of the HVAC system.
- Keep doors and windows closed. The air is full of pollen and other substances that can get into your HVAC system. If you let polluted air into your home, it can get into your HVAC system.
- Schedule maintenance. Try to call in a professional every three to six months to diagnose the entire HVAC system. SAR Appliance Repair can look at all the units in the HVAC system and determine whether there are any issues that you have overlooked. If not, great! Your HVAC system is ready to go.
An HVAC system doesn’t just heat and cool rooms. When outdoor air enters the HVAC system, it enters the ventilation unit, where the complete HVAC cycle begins. If this does not happen, then your air conditioning and ventilation system is faulty. In this case, you need to call the professionals to troubleshoot the system.
